The American Association of University Women is the nation's most
active and diverse organization for college graduates. AAUW's mission
is to promote education and equity for all women and girls. Read

AAUW National is composed of three
corporations: the
Association, a 160,000-member
organization with more than 1,600 branches nationwide that lobbies
and advocates for education and equity; the AAUW
Educational Foundation, which funds pioneering research on girls
and education, community action projects, and fellowships and grants
for outstanding women around the globe; and the AAUW
Legal Advocacy Fund, which provides funds and a support system
for women seeking judicial redress for sex discrimination in higher
education.
Premeeting socials started at 5:30, with the meeting and program beginning at 6:00 pm. Each meeting's refreshments will follow a cultural celbration theme noted in parentheses. Except as noted, the meetings will be at North Street Church of Christ at 3914 North Street, Nacogdoches, TX 75961. This year we will alternate meeting nights on Mondays and Tuesdays to better accommodate members' schedules.

Woman of the Year Banquet: honors local women who have made a positive societal change and has featured such keynote speakers as First Lady of Texas Laura Bush and former Governor of Texas Ann Richards. In 2002 we honored Carolyn Mitchell as our Woman of the Year. She is pictured here giving her acceptance speech. Dr. Mitchell has been a member of the SFASU faculty since 1976 in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science. Dr. Mitchell has received many awards in her field, authored numerous academic publications, and is nationally recognized for her work. Dr. Mitchell's honors include Delegate to the U. S. Olympic Academy, Distinguished Professional Woman at SFASU, B&PW Woman of the Year and member of the Nacogdoches Women's Hall of Fame. Her community activities include leadership roles with the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce, the Nacogdoches Treatment Center, the Texas and Nacogdoches Commissions on Women and Families, and the Nacogdoches County Historical Foundation. In 2007 we honored Anne Phillips as the Woman of the Year Recipient. Check out our list of previous Woman of the

This conference, held on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus, promotes math, science, and technology to more than three hundred junior high girls (grades 6-8) from all over East Texas. More than thirty different workshops are offered, from wildlife biology to internet tools.

The next conference will be held on February 23th, 2008 on the Stephen F. Austin State University Campus. This conference is designed for girls in grades 6-8. Each girl gets to attend three of approximately 30 possible workshops, plus the opening session and lunch session with door prizes. Workshop assignments are based on the date the registration form is received (to view examples from a past conference, see the forms below). Parents and teachers who register also have a workshop and receive a t-shirt and lunch with door prizes.
2008 registration forms will be available in January and will be posted on this web site as well as mailed to schools.

Maps: If you are unfamiliar with the SFA campus, here is a
map with the
buildings numbered. Registration check
in and the conference opening session are held in the Baker Pattillo
Student Center
(#71 on the first map). There will be security guard in a booth on
Vista drive near the student center who will give you directions about
parking. On Saurdays, you can park in any spot except
handicapped spots (unless you have a handicapped permit). The parking
garage next to the student center is not free parking. Buses should
park in the large lot north
of the coliseum (located on University and College Street) after
dropping off their riders.

Scholarships encourage education for women and are given annually to the Lynette K. Solomon Endowment as part of our contribution to the AAUW Educational Foundation Fund and to the local AAUW Scholarship Fund at Stephen F. Austin State University. Persons attending Stephen F. Austin who are interested in our local scholarship should contact Betty Burr or another AAUW officer for information. Information regarding national AAUW scholarships can be obtained through the National AAUW webpage.
Student Affiliates conduct an active organization on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University and recently presented a symposium "Students Organizing for Equity" at the 1997 AAUW National Association Convention and AAUW Texas Leadership Conference. The faculty advisors are Donnya Stephens and Karen Jenlink (kjenlink@sfasu.edu).
Membership to Nacogdoches Branch AAUW is open to all graduates from accredited colleges and universities. AAUW seeks a diverse membership.
