is West Harris County Branch AAUW EYH?
West Harris County Branch AAUW Expanding Your Horizons in
Science and Mathematics™, or EYH, is a day-long conference
for 450 Houston-area middle school girls and their parents,
teachers, and counselors. Each year, roughly 150 volunteers
from the West
Harris County Branch of the American Association of University
Women (AAUW-WHC) plan and carry out the conference. A

- Encourages young women to study as much math, science and technology
as possible by showing them the benefits of education and
its relevance to their lives; and
- Fosters awareness of career opportunities in science, math and technology related careers.
Our History
Since 1992, volunteers from the West Harris County Branch
of the American Association of University Women (AAUW-WHC)
have organized an annual EYH conference. The first Houston-area
EYH was held in 1993 on the campus of Rice University. In
1995, the conference moved to The Rice School/La Escuela Rice,
a newly opened K-8 school in the Houston Independent School
District. Spring Branch Independent School district began hosting the Expanding Your Horizon Conference in 2011 and will continue to do so at Northbrook Middle School on March 3, 2012.
Are there other EYH conferences?
Yes. Each year since 1976, EYH conferences throughout North
America have been introducing middle and high school girls
to math- and science-related professions. For a comprehensive
list of EYH conferences, visit www.expandingyourhorizons.org.
