My term as president of the West Harris County Branch of AAUW
is coming to an end. It has been a very rewarding time, and
I would like to thank all the members of the Board who have
worked with me for the past two years. You are all tireless
in performance of your duties, and I have enjoyed sharing
these experiences with you.
This Branch is a vibrant, intelligent group that pursues
personal education and can look at both sides of a question
before forming an opinion. You have been amazing volunteers
in the cause of equity and education for women and girls.
Carolyn Morris chaired EYH outstandingly. Our membership reached
out and welcomed the state members to Houston for the convention.
Margaret Carlson was named outstanding member of the state,
and she, Margo Johnson and Andrea Needham co-chaired the convention.
Many members of the Branch stepped up to spend hours volunteering
for the convention to make it the success that it was. During
the next Biennium, the Branch will be represented on the state
Board by Susan Alami, Texas AAUW financial officer; Mary Edwards,
Texas AAUW Program VP; and Enny Schissler, District Representative.
Susan also continues as Interbranch President. We are grateful
to Marietta Hostak for her two years as District Representative.
The goals and mission of AAUW have had active support from
this Branch. We have been recognized with PEARL awards in
2008-2009 and 2009-2010. We have had fun, too! The activities
that are sponsored for and by the membership have had great
participation.
Please join me in welcoming our next president, Diana Guarniere,
and her Board for the next Biennium: We wish you all the best.
Mary Edwards, President
